Alzhelmer Home Care Support
This Co. Louth service was set up December 2002 in answer to a need in the community for help at home for carers who have a family member suffering from Alzheimer’s. The service is fully funded by HSENE and is available seven days a week between the hours of 8.30am to 10pm.
The Home Care Co-ordinator is Olive Joyce. Olive and her team of trained carers aim to provide a “time out” for the family carer. This service is highly personalised to the person with Alzheimer’s and secondly the needs of the family. Each person’s care plan is tailored to suit the person suffering with Alzheimer’s and includes dementia specific activities and general support such as personal care. The person’s life story and interests they had prior to developing Alzheimer’s are recorded. These factors help to determine what kind of activities would suit the person. The family carer has an opportunity to discuss the care plan and say what would be most helpful to them. The Home Care worker will go to the home of the person with Alzheimer’s and provides the help within the comfort of his/her home.
